To further promote The Monster Book, I (Little Willow) interviewed author Thomas Sniegoski as well.

Monster Mash:

September 2000

(Interview questions by Little Willow)

What was your favorite demon (specific or type) to research for the Monster Book?

I got a big kick out doing the vampire section. It gave me a chance to do some research on the filthy blood-suckers (for future projects!) that I wouldn't have normally done. It also gave me a chance to watch some movies that I hadn't seen in a while as well as re-read some cool old comics and books. I especially got a kick out of skimming Salems' Lot and I Am Legend again.

If you could have any monstrous power, what would it be and why?

I think I would dig having the ability to communicate with corn. Just thinking of it gives me the heebie-jeebies. Let's go on to the next question I'm scaring myself.

Do you have any fears?

Christopher Golden.

Do you believe in monsters?

Christopher Golden.

Which villains or demons on the show do you deem sympathetic rather than evil?

That's kind of a hard one. Almost all the monsters on the show are pretty nasty and deserve to be pummeled by the Slayer. Angel is probably the most sympathetic demon (vampire) on the show. Even though he pretty much got what he deserved, you can't help but feel bad for the guy.

How long have you watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer? How long have you watched Angel?

I've watched both shows from the very beginning. I'm a sucker for monsters and stuff. Put em in a show and I'll watch em.

Which authors or novels do you draw inspiration from? (Classic, horror, anything. . .)

I love Stephen King, I think his early stuff (The Shining, Salems' Lot, The Dead Zone) are amazing pieces of fiction. Truman Capote's In Cold Blood is an amazing literary work as well. I could go on and on with authors. I also draw quite a bit of inspiration from movies, music and comic books. The whole creative process just stimulates the heck out of me.

What other Angel/BtVS projects are you currently working on?

Well, Chris and I are currently doing the Angel monthly comic from Dark Horse as well as a big time crossover with the Buffy monthly comic coming up sometime soon.

Also, I'm in the process of finishing up my first Angel novel for Pocket Pulse. I think they said it will be out in May sometime. It's called The Soul Trade and it's a hard boiled story that has Angel in pursuit of a little girl's soul that has been stolen by some pretty nasty and colorful characters. I think it will be one of the odder books in the series.
